BET 2017 HIGHLIGHTS: WIZKID WINS BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT; AFRICA, LECRAE WINS BEST GOSPEL/INSPIRATIONAL AWARD AT BET 2017 AWARDS. GET FULL LIST OF 2017 BET AWARD WINNERS

The 2017 BET awards which held on Sunday night; the 25th of June 2017 was indeed a night to remember. It took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and was hosted by a perpetually game Leslie Jones.

Thankfully, the inspired, audience-approved performances (Migos, Khalid, Bruno Mars, a reunited Xscape) and acceptance speeches (Chance the Rapper, Solange) exceeded the thudding, disappointing moments (we’re looking at you, New Edition and Trey Songz).

Wizkid was announced Winner of the Best International Act – Africa Award in a special ceremony held in Los Angeles, beating off stiff competition from Davido, Mr Eazi, Tekno, Stonebwoy, Nasty C, Babes Wodumo and AKA. It’s the Starboy’s 2nd win in this category, first taking home the award (alongside Sarkodie) back in 2012.

Nasty C had initially been accidentally announced as winner sometime last week, but BET quickly apologized for the “glitch”. Gotta admit they finally got it right!

Wizkid, however, wasn’t there to collect his award. Congratulations star boy.

On the other hand, Lecrae took home his second BET Award yesterday in the category for “Best Gospel/Inspirational Award” for his song “Can’t Stop Me Now (Destination).”

This year he was up against Cece Winans, Fantasia with Tye Tribbett, Kirk Franklin with Sarah Reeves, Tasha Cobbs, and Tamela Man, and Tamela Man by herself.

Lecrae has been nominated for a BET four times and became the first rapper to win it in 2015.
