Last Night, The Headies formerly known as (Hip Hop World Awards) held it’s 12th edition at the Eko Convention center, Lagos. It was such an explosive event which had Bovi and Seyi Shay as the hosts.
Before we give you the various categories of winners, we would like to acknowledge the biggest indivdual category winners at the prestigious awards night.
Simi – it’s no doubt that the X3m music signed act had a wonderful 2017. She was indeed very consistent as she blew our minds with several hits from Smile for me (which won the Best Rnb single category) to Joromi (which won the Best Recording of the year category), to the release of her sophomore album – Simisola (which was not denied the album of the year category). Simisola has left an indelible mark in the sands of time and we certainly look forward to her winning more accolades home and abroad, weldone Simi.
Davido – Please tell me one Nigerian who is not conversant with Davido’s “IF”lines; “If i tell u say i love you, my money, my body na ur own o baby, 30 billion 4 d account eh…”. IF by Davido deserved all accolades it got last night (Best Pop Single and Song of The Year categories). The song is so popular that even those on the streets felt like they had 30 billion in the account while they sang it lol. Davido also carted away with the well deserved Artiste of the year award making it his 3rd award for the night, huge shout out to the OBO boss and the entire OBO crew especially Mayorkun who won his first Headie award – Next Rated.
We also wish to acknowledge MI Abaga whose controversial record – You Rappers Should Fix UpYour Lives ended up bagging two Headies awards last night (Best Rap Single & Lyricist on the roll). Is this a sign that the Naija rap game needs some form of real fixing up? Anyway since Mode nine promised his Hence4th album via twitter i have had reasons to leap for joy, MI also drops his 4th studio album and 7th solo project – Yung Denzel.
